On the occasion of the 2012 Annual NatgWional Mine Safety Conference (ANMSEC), DIWATA presented the “2012 DIALOGUE ON MINING AS A MEANS FOR DEVELOPMENT” on 14 November 2012, at the Main Hall, Hill Station, Casa Vallejo, Baguio City .
In partnership with the Philippine Mine Safety and Environment Association, (PMSEA), the South Africa Embassy and Gold Fields Philippines Corporation, the dialogue tackled a number of relevant issues about mining, including: “Can the agriculture and tourism co-exist side-by-side with mining?; How are LGUs benefiting from Mining?; How can LGUs optimize the contribution clash royale boom of mining companies? How can the mining industry spur development of host communities?
The highlight of the dialogue was the presentation of its Special Guest, the South Africa Deputy Minister of Mineral Resources, Hon. Godfrey Oliphant, who spoke on the South African experience on mining. The Ambassador of South Africa , HE Amb. Agnes Nyamande Pitso, and guests and participants from the Philippine government, mining companies, academe and NGOs complemented the dialogue’s attendees.
